| Kangaroo Paw Powder - Australian Native Extract (Bulk) Quick enquiry Where to buy Suppliers range | Kangaroo paw is a plant that got its common name because of the shape of its flowers, this isn't animal derived! Naturally this plant grows around the South-West corner of Western Australia. The Noongar people call this 'Yonga Marr Wer'. The flower is the emblem of Western Australia and is greatly loved by native birds and animals who find nourishment in its nectar. In an attempt to become less pallatable to larger animals the plant has developed little hairs on its flowers to make grazing on them less palatable. The upside of this for birds and smaller mamals is that these hairs trap moisture thus making the plant even more appealing to pollinators. Kangaroo Paw Extract can be used in a wide range of cosmetic products including hair care. It is a natural source of Ferulic acid, a powerful antioxidant for anti-aging and environmental protection. It also contains natural sugars and fibers which can help trap moisture on the skin and hair for long-lasting hydration and skin conditioning. Appearance: Fine powder, pink/purple colouration that turns fluffy and a little thicker on hydration. The powder has a light woody scent. Extract Preparation: Freeze dried after picking to preserve the phytochemical integrity. Activity: This powdered extract has no nominated concentration ratio. Use Levels: You are best to hydrate this extract in water by taking 20% powder to 80% water and then filtering out any undissolved solids. Check pH and add preservative if you are making up a stock batch and storing it for future use. This solution can then be used in your formula at 1-10%. If you want to add the powder directly to your cosmetic product be aware that it will not all dissolve. Adding 0.2-2% of the dried powder is a recommended dose. Application: Use in hair or skincare products as an antioxidant/ hydrating natural extract. Kangaroo Paw is a fresh product prior to milling there will be microbial activity naturally occurring - like with most plant matter. It is also not irradiated therefore a natural micro-burden is present. | Kaolin White Australian Clay (Bulk) Quick enquiry Where to buy Suppliers range | Kaolin is a widely used clay for cosmetic purposes. It won't swell or thicken in water like bentonite clay does so it does require suspending in a water-based product using either a thickening gel agent or an emulsifier. Kaolin is commonly used as the base for clay masks where it provides good coverage and drying capacity. It it common to use Kaolin as a base clay and then add specialist, more active clays over the top of this to provide the activity. Use Levels: 0.5-50% Typically but can be applied to the skin in any concentration once wetted. Precautions: While kaolin is a dry ingredient it can still harbour micro spores and mould spores can be quite common as they are ubiquitous in the air. When adding clay to a cream or water-containing product it is wise to re-evaluate your preservative efficacy and, if needed, increase the preservative dose or change to a faster acting system. The only 100% reliable way to know if your preservative system is working for you is to run Preservative Efficacy Testing or a Micro Count.
