Green French Clay (Bulk) Quick enquiry Where to buy Suppliers range | A conditioning and nourishing clay for all skin types. Green French Clay is especially useful in formulas for sebum control. Great for face and body masks. Green French Clay has a mixed mineral origin: Kaolinite or kaolin clays can be coloured if the surrounding soil is rich in minerals. Some of these minerals have beneficial properties for the skin while others don't so much. All Kaolinites are reasonably good drawing agents as they pull toxins from the skin. Kaolin is often used as a base for clay masks due to it being well tolerated by most people. Illite is a mica type mineral occurring in argillaceous sediments with Illite being a general term for the clay minerals from this type of sediment. Argillaceous minerals appear silver-like due to their fine grain structure and trace metal constituent. Montmorillonite is a very soft phyllosilicate (silicate minerals making up 90% of the crust of the earth based on silicone and oxygen) that forms in microscopic crystals. The name Montmorillonite is a French name as it is named after a place where the clay was made famous. It is a smectite clay - smectite refers to the way the crystal sheets of the clay hold together. These clays are cationic and have a cationic exchange capacity due to the Magnesium and Aluminium in the structure. These clays swell in water and can be used to thicken and stabilise emulsions. This clay will swell a little in water. 100% natural mineral which is allowed to be used in COSMOS formulas. Appearance: Light green fine powder. Manufacturing Process: The clay undergoes a mechanical treatment, without any chemical process. It is crushed and dried. Formulation Tips: 5 - 40% in masks. Blends well with other clays. For best results, wet into the water phase prior to the addition of thickeners or oil phase. Can be added to a finished emulsion with good homogenisation. Homogenisation is recommended. Group: Clay. Alternative Names: Illite, Kaolin, Montmorillonite, Aqua. EINECS: 601-803-4, , 310-194-1, 215-288-5, 231-791-2. CAS No. 12173-60-3 [PCPC; CosIng], 68476-25-5 [AICIS], 1332-58-7, 1318-93-0, 7732-18-5. Kaolin White Australian Clay (Bulk) Quick enquiry Where to buy Suppliers range | Kaolin is a widely used clay for cosmetic purposes. It won't swell or thicken in water like bentonite clay does so it does require suspending in a water-based product using either a thickening gel agent or an emulsifier. Kaolin is commonly used as the base for clay masks where it provides good coverage and drying capacity. It it common to use Kaolin as a base clay and then add specialist, more active clays over the top of this to provide the activity. Use Levels: 0.5-50% Typically but can be applied to the skin in any concentration once wetted. Precautions: While kaolin is a dry ingredient it can still harbour micro spores and mould spores can be quite common as they are ubiquitous in the air. When adding clay to a cream or water-containing product it is wise to re-evaluate your preservative efficacy and, if needed, increase the preservative dose or change to a faster acting system. The only 100% reliable way to know if your preservative system is working for you is to run Preservative Efficacy Testing or a Micro Count. These tests can be carried out in a micro testing laboratory and should form part of your product R&D budget. Group: Clay. Alternative Names: Kaolin, Aqua. EINECS: 310-194-1, 231-791-2. CAS No. 1332-58-7, 7732-18-5. Pack Sizes: 100G; 500G; 1KG; 5KG; 20KG and above upon request. Product ID: CLAYKAOLWHIT. | Worldwide |

Note: The only way to be sure that your preservative system is working in your product is to carry out micro testing. While we are happy to pass on information and make theoretical recommendations of how to get the best out of our ingredients we can make no guarantees without this testing. There are two levels of test that a microbiological lab will do - one is a micro count which gives you a 'moment in time' look at the cleanliness of your formula and may also characterise the microbes present. The second is a Preservative Efficacy Test or PET. This is highly recommended as it tests how your product performs over time when it is challenged by microbes. You are legally required to market and sell products that are safe and microbial stability is an important part of that. | Worldwide |
Surfactant AN Base (Bulk) Quick enquiry Where to buy Suppliers range | INCI: Aqua, Caprylyl/ Capryl Glucoside, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Lauroamphoacetate, Sodium Chloride. Directions for use: This surfactant blend has been created as the cleansing base for your shampoos, body washes and facial wash products. It has been designed to be diluted with water, floral water or hydrosol at a rate of between 10-50% depending on the strength of cleansing you require. Formulations can also be customised with essential oils, extracts and actives, all of which should be tested in the base to make sure they are compatible. Activity Level: 45%. Use Level: Typical use levels are 10-50% as supplied (equivalent to between 4.5-22.5% as actives). Formulating tips for surfactant products: Adding vegetable oils to surfactant based products often causes stability issues and as such we recommend thorough stability testing of formulations that you create that contain oils. In general an oil-enriched cleansing product will only have between 0.1-2% oil phase in total. Essential oils can also interfere with the stability of the formula and may occasionally thin the product. It is best to start off with a small amount of essential oil (0.1-0.2%) and work up from there, observing any changes in viscosity and clarity. It is usual for essential oils and fragrances to be between 0.1-1% of the formula. Group: Surfactants. Alternative Names: Aqua, Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Lauroamphoacetate,Sodium Chloride,Sodium Benzoate.
