| GLUCONO-DELTA LACTONE | Glucono Delta Lactone (GDL) acts as a gentle acidifier and chelating agent. It is naturally-derived and is characterized as a carbohydrate. Due to its slow hydrolysis to gluconic acid, it provides a gradual, progressive and continuous decrease of pH to equilibrium. Hence, it prevents microbial growth and functions as a part of an effective preservative system. In addition, the multiple hydroxyl groups on the GDL molecule can attract water and perhaps limit water activity. Moreover, it provides moisturizing effect.
