It is an aqueous based, micronized benzoyl peroxide (BPO) dispersion (40%) in the form of a gel, replaces traditional BPO due to its low irritation profile. It allows BPO to penetrate pores to attack and eliminate P. acnes bacteria through its oxidizing effect. Moreover, it acts as a keratolytic which helps to clear and prevent clogged pores, acne lesions and dark spots. It offers ease of use and handling, small particle size (non-nano) which penetrates the pore efficiently, stable product form and cold process formulations. It is compatible with esters, waxes, non-ionic emulsifiers, glycols, PEGs and thickening additives including some synthetic polymers. It finds application in formulating anti-acne creams, anti-acne wipes, facial cleansers and body washes. This emulsifier is anionic in nature and as such is a useful secondary emulsifier in a cream or lotion.
